Land of the ancient Maya, the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico proved to be an amazing destination for fun, adventure, and relaxation. We rented a car at the Cancun airport when we landed there a month ago and toured extensively. So many people think of Mexico as a dangerous country to visit. It is true that there are areas around the border with the U.S.A. that I would not go near. Also the tourist zones are often a little scary because these are the areas that attract unscrupulous individuals. We tried to get off the tourist trail and we were rewarded. The Mayan people of Mexico are gentle, warm, and lovely. Driving can be a little stressful but luckily my husband is very good at adapting to his surroundings and I'm a darn good navigator. A good map is essential of course. So hang around ....I'm going to take you there........dive in....the water is warm and inviting.........( I always asked before I took a photo and my camera is small and set not to flash.)

I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip! We went to the Mayan Riviera a few years ago but we weren't adventurous like you -- renting a car and touring around on our own -- we went to an all-inclusive. But we took a couple of day trips too. Beautiful land, beaches, people and sun!
Cool, Susan!!! Looking forward to your next pages! A couple years ago, I spent a week on a lagoon in Placencia, Belize. We toured the back country with a lovely Mayan guide who knew where to take us...it was wonderful. and you're right about the Mayans...so sweet...we bought a few handcarved trinkets
Oh, I am soooo jealous! It snowed again last night.
So sweet that you got some pix of the local people. That is what makes the whole trip for me.
