that's business......

Buying a house is stressful business and I have learned many things from the process.Getting a mortgage is the biggest stress of all. The bank has the potential to earn tens of thousands of dollars from your mortgage and they should be pulling out their very best deals for you. But they don't. Most people stay with the same bank all of their lives. We are self employed and have been with our bank for almost 30 years.  Yet, for some reason they treated me like I did not know the first thing about finance. Being condescended to by bankers is very frustrating and annoying. So, I went to another bank. Best move ever! This bank referred me to their mortgage specialist. We were able to negotiate everything on the telephone and through the internet. It was an efficient way of doing business. As my old bank just crawled along, the mortgage specialist was able to put together a dynamite deal in no time. Our mortgage  interest rate is 2.1%, with lots of great extras. I did go meet with my old bankers just to let them know what was being offered elsewhere. They swore it was impossible! Two days later they emailed me that they would match everything. Too late. We are out of there. That's business.......

Hello:
Although we have not fortunately had to have a mortgage for many years now, we understand exactly what you say here. It seems that the banks so often, if not at all times, forget that we are the paying customers and that their profits depend on our business.

And as for being with a bank for a long period of time, that apparently these days counts for nothing. Or so it seemed when we recently reminded an officious employee [when actually paying in money] that we had banked with them for three generations. One might just as well bid the waves go back for all the notice taken.

Well done to ditch your old bank. We now divide and rule between four different UK banks and one in Hungary.

Congratulations on you newest project. A new house! It sounds wonderful and I can hardly wait to see more photos, especially the dock, the kayak, the stick and the new dog!

Congratulations again (if you did get my last comment). Now twice. Not only you did get a fabulous house in a beautiful sorrounding, but now you've got a very good mortgage in deed. It must be your lucky year!

Congrats! Both on the house and finding a better deal. In this day and age one would think any business would be trying their best to get customers - obviously not...

Good for you for leaving to find a bank that was more respectful.

Great deal. Too bad for your other bank. You're right, when you have delt with them for so long they should have been bending over backwards for you. Glad things worked out for you.
