flown the nest.....

taking a break...., citronella candles help with the mosquitoes.....a big, cold cocktail helps with nesting....
I'm the one that is nesting.....
it is strangely quiet on the deck now......
The nesting boxes for swallows were full of chicks when we first moved into our new home on the Slocan River. We listened to the babies chirp and watched the parents swoop down and fly straight into the round holes of the houses to feed them. Last week, we watched the young birds fly from of their nests and awkwardly find their wings. Like groups of teenagers they flew together exuberantly and filled the sky. I sat on the deck laughing at their antics. They loved to fly but all eventually tried to get back into their nests. They couldn't maneuver the hole. They fluttered out front, perched on the top, then circled and tried again. They could not get back into the nest. Off they flew. Then there were none.....the sky is still full of birds....but the swallows have flown the nest.....

he can't fly through that little hole and get back into the nest.......
so much for that no clutter policy....I can't seem to help myself......
(sorry I haven't visited much lately....my computer is still at the old place...(long story), so I can only blog when I am there. I miss all my blogging buddies.... one day we will be finished all of this.....)

It looks so pretty already. I thought you just moved. My favorite thing is to watch and commune with nature. If it would just cool off. We were at 106 degrees today and the drought is terrible. I never thought I would be ready to see some rain and cold.

And you call that a nest? That is pretty humble :-)
And this is me, dying of envy: #!!##.
I'm so glad that you have found such a peacock nest for you!

Hello Susan:
We continue to be in awe of the most wonderful situation of your house. And, in our view, a few mosquitoes cannot spoil, nuisance though they are, the idyll.

It is always sad when the swallows fly the nest. In some ways it preludes the end of summer. Oh dear! Have a lovely weekend - bite free, we hope!
