My 83 year old mother suffers from age related macular degeneration in both of her eyes. This is a genetic condition and one she has warned me will rob me of my eyesight eventually. She has been told to take lutein , an antioxident, carotenoid that is found in green, leafy vegetables and egg yolks. My eyesight has deteriorated over the last few years and I now wear progressive lens. Without my glasses I am as good as blind. I added lutein to my arsenal of vitamins around the beginning of January and have taken 10 mg daily. The other day I put fresh bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the shower without first identifying which was which. Normally I put them in order so I know not to shampoo my hair with conditioner. So, I'm in the shower and realize I haven't discerned the identity of the bottles. Usually I would employ the pinhole trick. Look through a tiny crack in my fist and somehow manage to read the small print. Don't know why that works,.... but it does. I pick up an unidentified bottle and I CAN READ THE WRITING. I almost fell over. I picked up the other bottle and I could read it too. I read every bottle I could find. Yup. I could see them all. Amazing! Lutein not only has huge benefits for our eyes but our skin and cardiovascular health as well. They say that lutein can actually reverse macular degeneration. I'll be eating my green, leafy veggies and taking my dose of lutein daily. Good stuff!

Thanks for the tip! I have heard wonderful things about Lutein...your success with this supplement has confirmed it.
Happy READING!

Good tip! My great grandma has macular degeneration in both eyes too. So I may be predisposed to it too. She is so awesome though - she's in her 90's and still volunteers at the hospital and lives alone, unassisted! I hope I'm like her when I'm that age -and with the help of the lutein, maybe I can bypass the macular degeneration!
By the way, does your eyesight affect your painting? that's kind of amazing!
Good for you and I'll put that tip in my pocket! I do eat my greens but haven't done lutein.
I think I will have to find some lutein. Love green leafy vegetables too. Great post!
The eye health benefits of lutein have been known for some time now. Recent research done at Harvard concluded that it also protects our skin from UV light. This is the type of light which causes sunburn and skin cancer.
i need to get some of this - am hating the journey to total reliance on readers for everything. have never tried the pinhole trick tho! i love green leafy veggies so thats not a problem :) lutein, lutein, now where can i find some.... thanks for the heads up! xV
