"...the frankest expression of myself."...Frida Kahlo

"Really I do not know whether my paintings are surrealistic or not, but I do know they are the frankest expression of myself." Frida Kahlo...1907-1954

You just have to love Mexican artist Frida Kahlo for her brutal honesty.  She was a power house of a woman that swore, drank, smoked cigars,  and partied.  All very unusual for the early 1900's, and in Mexico especially. She was terribly injured, when a bus hit her. The bus accident broke her back and pelvis and many other bones but  it did not break her spirit.  She spent a lot of time alone, bedridden. She painted herself over and over again. She painted her bushy eyebrows, her moustache, her amazing beauty, her depression, her despair, her life. Animals were her best friends. Not pretty pictures, her images are sometimes disturbing, raw, and haunting....

Free-spirited Frida...nice summary, Susan. Loved the movie, Frida, which brought my attention to this wild woman. Hadn't really noticed her before...

Your painting are incredibly beautiful. The colors are so vivid that it feels like you put your heart on every stroke. Impressive!
