...the mystery of the instinctive....Amadeo Modogliani

"What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious,.............
the mystery of the instinctive......................."Amedeo Modigliani Amadeo Modigliani lived during the the avant garde years 1884-1920. He was Italian but preferred to live in Paris. He moved there in 1906 and soon his reputaion of bad boy, heavy drinker, hashish smoker was made. He loved to party and had a habit of stripping stark naked when drunk. His paintings usually featured women painted in an elongated style. You can see the influence of African masks and sculture in his work.  He exhibited with Picasso and Matisse and the parties were legendary. His hard living caught up with him and he became quite ill in his thirties. He sold only a few paintings in his lifetime and never for very much money. He married a woman  much younger than himself and had a child with her. She was nine months pregnant with a second child, when he died of tuberculosis at age 35. A few days later she threw herself off the fifth floor of her parent's apartment building, killing herself and her unborn child.   The many women in his short life are well documented ...... Ah....Paris in the spring time....
"Now if you could just tilt your head a little ....perfecto! I'm going to open a bottle of wine. Would you like a glass?"
"Yes, Amadeo, yes.".............yes, he sure could paint.......
