hands on.......

When my gallery was open we represented Douglas Kennedy of Vancouver. His photography is enigmatic and surreal.  This lovely black and white photo hangs in my living room and captures perfectly the earth goddess, "Fern".  This was done in a dark room...not on a computer, folks. Is the dark room going to become a lost art with the advent of digital cameras and the amazing photoshop? Changes in technology definately affect our lives in every way. The sudden explosion of high realism in painting may be because it is now so easy to project an image onto a canvas and simply draw it's outline, then paint it in. It's not paint by number but it's not very creative either. So when you see that photoshop image or super realistic painting, realize that it's technology that inspired it, not technique. Technique comes from hours of learning something the hard way...hands on...

I am also impressed by creativity and the super realistic paintings, as our life now days is so super realistic and cynical...
