it's the power of love....calm....

Pablo is feeling a lot better. I won't show you the sad pictures...he just looked too awful.  But yesterday I spent all day rubbing his belly and speaking softly to him and Jose, our other dog. I felt Pablo slowly relax and he actually quit shaking. It was like dog reiki, I guess.  I had been feeding him tidbits of a wonderful stew I slowcooked in my cast iron crock pot. Bits of steak that were so tender that they fell apart were eagerly eaten by him. Sips of water, a few more tidbits and belly rubs. I  carry him outside and he totters about and does finally go. I carry him back to his little bed and he stretches out like a depressed, dying dog. Then my husband and son arrive home. They have been away working for six weeks and Pablo has missed them.  His little tail thumps non stop. He is still barely able to lift his head off of the blanket. My husband carries him outside and he goes again and then totters over to the cabana and his favourite spot. It is pouring rain but we sit out in the cabana all evening, wrapped in blankets, feeding him tidbits and petting him softly. Then we carry him to sleep in our bed. We are all exhausted and sleep heavily. This morning we feed him more tidbits in bed and he's suddenly feeling much better. He walks around the yard and finds his favourite spots. He eats hardily, drinks lots and looks alert and interested. No more moping about for him. He's back to sleeping on the couch and big chair where he belongs, NOT on that sick bed! His shaking has stopped, he's not coughing or choking...and doing all the old dog stuff. He walks up the ramp to my studio and gets up on the old couch and waits for me to paint something.  Now he's back sleeping on the best chair in the house and looking so much better. It's the power of love....calm.....

I haven't read previous posts mentioning your little dog's illness. Hopefully it's passed and he's not dying? Losing animals is heart rending, isn't it? You sound as tho' you've given him the best medicine: love.
