collection of figurines on my windowsill....love the Maya blue.......
On previous trips to Mexico I had discovered beautiful reproductions of the Jaina figurines and had started collecting them. Jaina is a small, ancient man made island off the coast of the Yucatan where they discovered the largest treasure of Mayan figurines anywhere. The figurines are almost always around 25 cm. tall, are very realistic and mostly portray people belonging to all social classes, wearing complex costumes and engaged in different activities They are all decorated in Maya blue.  I fell in love with their red clay and the beautiful Maya blue. On this holiday we did some research and discovered that we could find the artist of these wonderful, reproduction, figurines in the little town of Muna, deep in the Yucatan peninsula. Hidden away down a side street we discovered the studio of Patricia Morales. Patricia uses the same clay mixture and natural pigments that they used thousands of years ago. Her reproductions are exquisite. World renowned and recognized, her amazing work is in collections worldwide. Ixchel came home with us. She is the goddess of the moon. We call her ,"Luna from Muna"

Patricia has the facial features seen on so many ancient sculptures in Mexico. I love the look of these people. Drawing them is a pleasure.
