Mexico is now the number one visited country in Latin America as well as the number ten most visited destination world wide. Mexico has designated 2011 as the Year of Tourism and they are pumping major money into infrastructure and advertising. It is predicted that the Yucatan peninsula will be the most visited place on earth in 2012, because of the enormous interest world wide in the Mayan prophesies. According to Mayan chronology, our present era began on the 12th of August, 3114 BC and will end on the 22nd of December, 2012 AD. They say we are heading towards the fourth destruction of the world, and with it, humanity. Mayans were very advanced with mathematics and astronomy. Many have suggested that their ruins are sign posts for other life in the universe. There is another world feel to all of the ruins we visited. The prophesy of destruction by cosmic cataclysm has grabbed our attention. Prepare to hear much more about it in the coming year........It is the Mayan enigma.......

I adore iguanas. Thank you so much for the pictures. We had a green 5.5 ft female iguana named Bob for about 10 years. She was a force to be dealt with and a love. They can be quite intimidating. Shaking their heads, blowing up their cheecks and the tails are a weapon. On the other hand, there is nothing like the touch of an iguana as they curl up next to you for warmth. She was my baby and also a very good way to keep lots of folks I didn't want to dear with at bay. tee hee.
Great adventures you have had. Thanks for sharing. Linda
I loved seeing iguanas when I was in Mexico! I saved 2 young British ladies from a herd of wild iguanas at Xel-ha by walking ahead of them down a path. They wouldn't believe me that iguanas were more scared of them than they were of the iguanas. So I got to be their "knight in shining armour" by going first. Of course, all the iguanas immediately scattered and ran off, as predicted.
Wonderful photos! I almost feel like I'm there!
great info on the mayans and i love the photographs, very nice!!!!!!!
those iguanas are so scary! so strong and intimidating!
hope you have a nice weekend!
I love the ruins. I am scared of the iguanas. :)
Maybe you'll want to add a facebook button to your website. Just bookmarked the site, although I must do this manually. Simply my 2 cents.
Fabulous pics! It's on my list of places I'd like to travel to. I wonder if the Mayans ever realised how much angst they are giving the modern world with their predictions!
I need some iguanas to guard my house.
HI .. this is Jana again who met you in Muna at Paty's Tienda ... did you take these gorgeous photos with your canon powershot? They are amazing and I am envious. Regarding Ca88andra's comment, the Maya NEVER predicted the end of the world. This supposed "prophecy" is a farce created by christian thinkers with an imaginative strictly New Age twist. A suggested scholarly reading is 2012 by the well respected Maya astrologer Anthony Aveni (amazon.com). So please relax .. it's all good.
