a simple life for a pirate on the beautiful Isla Holbox......
Isla Holbox is a small island that curves into the green water where the Caribbean meets the Gulf of Mexico. The entire island is sand and shells. There are no cars on the island and the locals get around by foot, bike, pedicab, scooter or golf cart. With no cars on the island there is a peaceful, feeling. The people are descended from pirates and Mayans and are mostly fishermen. The pueblo is built around the town square with everything being identified by it's location in reference to it. There are no street names or signs. A beautiful, long white sand beach stretches along for miles just two blocks off the square. About 2000 people live here and all of their village life happens within three or four blocks off the square. Everybody seems very happy and village life is boisterous and animated. The juice seller where we buy our morning vampire juice is obviously part pirate. With his long, wavy, black hair, handsome moustache, and confident approach we were almost put off by him. But then we tasted his juice and noticed his beautiful wife silently cutting up fruit. Then every evening we saw them on the pier watching the sunset together. They were always in deep conversation and very engaged with each other. A simple life for a pirate on the beautiful Isla Holbox........
