walking to Red Sands Beach....
I parked on the outskirts of Nelson today and walked along the waterfront to one of Nelson's best kept secrets. Red Sands Beach is well known by locals as our clothing optional beach. It's a hidden fringe of a beach that is totally unmarked and not easy to find. In the summer time you might find our local holy man doing magnificent yoga positions balanced on a rock off shore. All summer long, the free and easy folk of Nelson enjoy swimming in the shallow, warm water. The tiny pockets of beach offer sweet little spots to spend the day. It is necessary to cross private property to access the beach and the owner has been very generous in allowing this for many years. In exchange the patrons keep the beach scrupulously clean and really try to dissuade over night camping. Now, of course, development looms and soon condos will look out upon this fine little hideaway. Natural, wild, exotic Red Sands will be tamed by paved pathways and park benches.............A secret no longer....... walking to Red Sands Beach.......

I remember secret places I visited while growing up that are secret no more. But the memories will remain...
What fantastic pics,I've been to Nelson, it's beautiful, my fave place is still Tofino... great to be back in Denver! thanks for your thoughts!
Gorgeous countryside. Encroachment on the pristine and fabulous is something we as humans have been doing forever. Too bad...some places deserve to be left for just the beauty of it. The Olde Bagg

Wow you live in a beautiful place, and looks like you are still having your Indian Summer, things are cooling down here in Wales but most of the leaves are still on the trees just turning into reds and yellows
what a beautiful and peaceful place!!! love all these images and make me crave for a much needed brake!
Susan, your images are wonderful! You have taken me to a place I have never seen before..yet there are so many similarities to my surroundings in England.
The community you live in sounds perfect. I can see why you thrive it it. I grew up in a similar spot along the East Coast of the USA..an artist colony where everyone walked around with smiles as well.
Thanks for stopping by today... I really appreciate your comment.
