Oxkintoch.....feel the mystery.....
Closing my eyes to the dreary day outside and remembering the day we went to visit the site of the ancient city of Oxkintoch. The limestone plateau that the Yucatan sits upon seems very evident here. The great prairie extends for miles and you can almost see the curve of the earth. It was a hot morning and nobody else was about. The bees were humming and the wild grasses were fragrant. The site for this Mayan ruin is eight square miles. Not a lot has been excavated but it is possible to see mounds of ruins everywhere in all directions. It is the unexcavated ruins that excite me. Miles of mounds cover ancient sites.......I want to get down and dig. Oxkintoch seems full of ghosts. We can feel their presence. We can feel the mystery.

I love your pictures from Oxkintoch, even that I dident know where it is. But I love stone and ruins, and like you say, it seems full of ghosts and mysteries.
Who is Meg?
Have a lovely sunday

beautiful!!
I like to visit places like these. They have so much majesty. You can close your eyes and just imagine what it must have been like, way back then.
These structures beckon attention and reverence. Yes, indeed, my imagination has been activated.
How wonderful to have been there all by yourselves. It would have been so evocative -- just you and the ancient stones.
Looks intriguing indeed... The structures seem to be speaking and calling us, the air is still... Wow, loved the pics, you have given a good account of the wonderful place...
Have a nice day:-)
There are never enough monies to reveal the Mayan digs...but, perhaps, it's the mystery below that enchants...we can make our own stories...or listen to the Mayan guide make what he can from it...
very interesting! great pics
HI Susan
This looks wonderful .. even the name Oxkintoch sounds mysterious!!! I think the fact they have not been too disturbed must make them all the more precious... I'm sure they feel that way too..
