Oxkintoch.....feel the mystery.....

Closing my eyes to the dreary day outside and remembering the day we went to visit the site of the ancient city of Oxkintoch. The limestone plateau that the Yucatan sits upon seems very evident here. The great prairie extends for miles and you can almost see the curve of the earth. It was a hot morning  and nobody else was about. The bees were humming and the wild grasses were fragrant. The site for this Mayan ruin is eight square miles. Not a lot has been excavated but it is possible to see mounds of ruins everywhere in all directions. It is the unexcavated ruins that excite me.  Miles of mounds cover ancient sites.......I want to get down and dig. Oxkintoch seems full of ghosts. We can feel their presence. We can feel the mystery.

right time, right place....

I only use my own photos for anything I do online, so when I was sitting on my lounge chair on the Tulum beach and a professional photo shoot started, I realized I was in the right place, at the right time. For a couple of days we watched the flurry of activity as gorgeous, young models posed for the cameras. When a model came out dressed as a mermaid, I realized opportunity was calling. Always take advantage of opportunities!. My etsy store now has a banner with a mermaid on it....right time, right place......

walking the Boca Paila Road.....

Walking down the Boca Paila Road was a break from the harshness of the blazing sun on the beach. The gates along the way were a story in themselves.......I'm a big fan of the stick fences.....looks like something that I could build....

outside of Tulum....the Boca Paila Road....

rustic and primitive.....
the Caribbean is sensational here....
Tulum pueblo is a couple of miles away
the Boca Paila Road
eclectic housing
Om restaurant

lots of places to hang....
yoga is big here.....
the sand is like sugar
the beach goes on for miles.....
cool decor is everywhere.....

There is a stretch of road, along the Mayan Riviera in Mexico, where the government decided  not to bring in electicity. It was decided to leave this stretch as a place for low impact, eco resorts to develop. Not far from the pueblo of Tulum, along the beach, runs the Boca Paila Road. ( check out the youtube of the Boca Paila Road ). There are lots of little resorts here, mostly cabanas on the beach. The resorts have their own generators and there is usually electricity for a few hours every night. Everything is very rustic, or primitive. It depends on your point of view. The beach is sensational  and this area has become a "new age" destination. Every morning, yoga devotees line the beach greeting the day with their sun salutations.  Old hippies, young globetrotters, and lots of Italians love the eclectic vibe.
